Sleep in a Tepee and Eat Breakfast Cooked Over an Open Fire!

Enjoy a camp-style tepee bed and breakfast in Eastern Wyoming that sits on a bluff overlooking the Cheyenne River in Niobrara County near the old Cheyenne-Deadwood Stage Route. A circle of Lakota Sioux tepees, very similar to what may have been on the same site centuries ago, offer a unique experience out of yesteryear to weary travelers. The panoramic view of the surrounding area is incomparable. The novelty of sleeping in a tepee is an alternative to contemporary lodging.

The tepee, originally made of buffalo skins, was home for many of the Native Americans of the Great Plains. It is an easy structure to set up, take down and move. With the coming of horses, the size of the tepee increased as horses were able to pull heavier loads on the travois than the dogs had been able to pull. The size increased again when white men traded canvas for furs, as the Native Americans were able to make and transport the larger tepees easier.

The structure of the tepee withstands strong winds, is cool in summer and warm in winter. The smoke flaps adjust the flow of air and, when they are open, give the tepee a majestic appearance. The inside lining aids with ventilation and ensures privacy.

An evening campfire relaxes guests as they roast marshmallows, drink coffee or hot chocolate, visit, and enjoy the fresh air of God's creation, a beautiful star-painted sky.

Awaken to the singing of birds, the morning sun, or coffee brewing on the campfire. Indulge in a hearty home-cooked outdoor breakfast before continuing the day's travel. Treat your family to an unforgettable experience!
