Amenities

There are eight tepees: three 14', three 16', and two 18' The 14' will accommodate two adults, the 16' will accommodate 4 adults and the 18' will accommodate 6 adults. Single pads and sleeping bags can be added in each tepee.

Children and pets are welcome, as this is a family experience! Children under five may stay free unless additional sleeping facilities are needed.

Each tepee has a turf ground covering. The queen size beds consist of 4" foam covered pads and four pound sleeping bags. The bags are lined with sheets and Indian blankets are also furnished. A cottonwood stump serves as a stand for an enamel wash basin, soap dispenser and towels. The novelty of sleeping in a tepee is an alternative to contemporary travel lodging.

The tepees circle an outdoor fire pit, where there's a campfire every evening. The fire pit is also used in the morning to prepare a hearty, western, all-you-can-eat breakfast. Breakfast will consist of bacon, sausage or ham served with eggs, hash browns and pancakes. There is always plenty of cowboy coffee, juice and milk.

Cottonwood stumps provide seating and tables around the campfire pit. There are no evening meals served. However, Mule Creek Junction, 2-1/2 miles south (at the junction of Highway 18 & Highway 85) has a full lunch and dinner menu.

Since there is no electricity or running water, there are no shower facilities or television. Flashlights provide light. Water for washing and drinking is transported. The water for washing is heated in a pot over the campfire. Two smaller tepees are located behind the circle of eight sleeping teepees. One contains a Storburn propane toilet that incinerates all waste. The other tepee is equipped with stumps, water and a clothes rack. This tepee is used as a sponge-bath lodge.

Future plans for the Sage and Cactus Village include the erection of a small log cabin, The Trading Post, to be used as an office, gift shop and storage area for supplies.

Sage and Cactus Village is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year.
